C'era una volta la rivoluzione

I really haven't been online much of late as I've been concentrating on other things, including preparing for The Early Mixes shoot coming up. I've also been devouring commentary tracks as well... hey, one of the most important lessons I ever learned about guerrilla filmmaking came from Spike Lee on the She's Gotta Have It Criterion laserdisc commentary: save your college IDs to show the cops in case they ask you for your permit. This will actually be most relevant for upcoming shoot, which will be most gloriously seat-of-the-pants; it'll be nice to shoot something without sound again, there's so much more freedom involved.

I have also recently seen for the first time in many, many years, the 'other' Sergio Leone Western, Duck, You Sucker and found it a fascinating work on several different levels. I actually have a lengthy piece on that film I'm working on in Semagic, but for right now I offer this scene which showcases the dramatic thrust of the film, as well as Rod Steiger and James Coburn's intense performances... as well as Ennio Morricone's beautiful score, which I've been addicted to* all week:

NOT WORK SAFE - Language

* Thank goodness for the expanded edition, which includes the faux liturgical 'Banco Nacionale de Mesa Verde' cue at the end of "Marcia Degli Accattoni (#2)," truly one of those "how the hell could you leave that piece off of the original soundtrack album!?!" moments. You know, like the main title of Conan the Destroyer. Or "Final Duel" from Return of the Jedi. Or the main title from Krull. Or "The Hunt" from Planet of the Apes. Thankfully, only that first example remains unreleased.

You Are Rum

You're the life of the party, and a total flirt
You are also pretty picky about what you drink
Only the finest labels and best mixed cocktails will do
Except if you're dieting - then it's Diet Coke and Bicardi all the way

In other bits of trivia, once the initial novelty had worn off, I am finding that BlueTooth is not quite as useful to me as it might seem. It is great for when I'm at home, I can just put the phone down and walk around and do my thing, but when it comes to portability, it is actually more of a pain because I have to constantly be turning it on and off. It is much easier when getting a call on the street to just answer the phone than to pull out the BlueTooth and activate it... if I was always wearing the BlueTooth, it would be a different story, but, of course, I am most often listening to music. So it really didn't turn out to be all that.
