The Dude's Chips

The vending machine took my money but wouldn't dispense my bottle of water. I therefore was forced, during break, to go to the cafeteria. There, in addition to my water, I also found "The Dude's Chips," a product of Robert's American Gourmet.

Ingredients: Corn Mesa, Canola/and or Sunflower Oil, Salt. Pretty straightforward, huh? Well, they tasted that way too. No, this is not exactly the Dude from The Big Lebowski, but I'm pretty sure that Dude would eat these too...

This reminds me of a time long ago when I accompanied Royal S. Brown to the cafeteria, and he discovered Marienbad* iced tea. He looked at it and said, "I have to get this." So, I'm not the only one who has this sort of reaction to certain stimuli.

* Alain Resnais' Last Year At Marienbad, which was written by Alain Robbe-Grillet, is a classic of avant-garde cinema, centering around a large mansion and a liaison between a man and a woman that may or may not have been a rape. A brilliant film, actually, one that challenges the patriarchal dependence upon linear narrative and Griffithian editing and also takes full advantage of the Rococo architecture of its setting.
