What in heaven's name brought you to Casablanca?
My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.
The waters? What waters? We're in the desert.
I was misinformed.
You know, I looked at my list of "Movie Quote of the Week" entries and found that I didn't have one from Casablanca. Not one! And here I've been holding it up as having some of the best dialogue in movie history, blunted only by how much of it has been appropriated into the American lexicon (and not all of it accurately, either; "Play it again, Sam," never appears once in the film). What is interesting about this is that I watched Casablanca one night at work at Ballbuster Video about six years ago, and went home and sent out an e-mail I sent to a lot of people that about the movie and how good it was that, to my memory, was very similar to some of the essays I've written on this LiveJournal. Of course, that being six years ago, that e-mail is long gone (that was back when I had that GTE.net address). I stand by whatever I said in that work, however.
Though you insist that you were the first person on the block, people can
never seem to remember that you exist. It seems that you're just one of those types who
signs anything they're handed without reading the fine print. That's probably how you
ended up owing your entire life to the DuPont corporation. Awash in chemicals and
lifelong promises, you don't seem that aware after all. You live near a cool bridge,
but even that is taking its toll.

You're The Dictionary!
You're one of those know-it-all types, with an amazing amount of
knowledge at your command. People really enjoy spending time with you in very short
spurts, but hanging out with you for a long time tends to bore them. When folks
really need an authority to refer to, however, you're the one they seek. You're an
exceptional speller and very well organized.

While some people think you're poor and maybe a little corrupt, you
know where it's at, enjoying good food and nice beaches. You like to take things a
little slower than those around you, and you really wish the air were cleaner, but sometimes
compromises must be made. For some reason, Chevrolet keeps trying to sell you Novas
as well, even though they don't really go.
