Conan the King (Conan the Barbarian)

As Dudley eats his cricket...

Movie Quote of the Week

Grosse Point Blank

(practicing in front of a mirror before his reunion)

Hi. I'm, uh, I'm a pet psychiatrist. I sell couch insurance. Mm-hmm, and I - and I test-market positive thinking. I lead a weekend men's group, we specialize in ritual killings. Yeah, you look great! God, yeah! Hi, how are you? Hi, how are you? Hi, I'm Martin Blank, you remember me? I'm not married, I don't have any kids, and I'd blow your head off if someone paid me enough.

No, I will not be licking the banana slug.

Hiking was the order of the day with aerolyndt, ojosmarrones and some others. It's so green around here. There are so many plants that are still green. It's also interesting how weather that would make me annoyed in the city seems oddly appropriate in this environment. There was light mist and rain all day, but rather than being miserable, it feels ratehr refreshing.

I also have now bumped into mike_kenshin for the first time in, like, eleven or twelve years or something. He didn't recognize me.

There is something a little bizarre about being at a party where I know so few people who are as familiar with one another as these people are. Everyone is perfectly nice to me, don't get me wrong, but there is a certain freeness about how they are able to interact that sometimes makes me feel like I am being slightly invasive. I don't know what each person's boundaries are and whatnot. I don't feel alienated or anything, it can just be a bit isolating at times. On the other hand, this is a very Dionysian event, and so a certain amount of icebreaking is intrinsic to the whole thing.

Last night there was an attempt to play a game known as "Killer Rabbits." I wish to make sure that nobody falls into the same trap we did. There is a voluminous instruction manual that really doesn't seem to make much sense. It makes sense to be sure of one's sobriety when attempting to figure out the game. Um... I'm not sure if I'm ready to approach the game again. Ever. On the other hand, "Apples To Apples" was great fun. I think I'll be introducing that to my East Coast friends upon my return.

About the Title

"Eat me!"

Mark's school had an outdoor program for the sixth grade that recommended that they should lick banana slugs in order to build character or something weird like that. UC Santa Cruz has the banana slug as its mascot, and there is a banana slug cook-off somewhere. Slugs. Dude. I know that these are not the same little squishy nasty things from where I come from, but they're still slugs. Yech.

I'm very glad I don't have a thing about reptiles anymore, as our host here raises lizards. There are a few geckos and a lot of chameleons. They're pretty interesting. Dudley (which was who I was referring to in the title of my last post) is fun to feed. His tongue is gigantinormous.
