Conan the King (Conan the Barbarian)

Hm. An unexpected decision...

My primary reason for travelling with my backpack is to be able to carry more music. I don't need to do this tomorrow, as I have loaded up the Nomad, and will not be taking the iRiver. Should I bother with the backpack or not? Hmmm...

Morning Commute

My busdriver apparently thinks that he's Hawaiian, because the bus moved at a snail's pace... furthermore there was the short, sharp stops on the 7 train today...

On the other hand, despite the fact that I keep checking for my backpack, the bag-free commute was rather nice. The Nomad replaces a CD book (there's actually more music in there now than there was in my backpack a week ago). I am learning the feel of the thing, which for simple things such as pause, skip and volume is quite easy. The menu operations have to be done with the unit out, but that's okay, as it is less intrusive to do than I thought. Everything stays under my jacket.

The unit and its cover

I originally was going to keep the little leather condom the unit came with for non-jacket wearing, but I've found that if I leave the Nomad in the condom, it is no less easy to operate, and I don't have to lock the controls as they are protected by the condom. I (naturally) don't use the ear bud headphones that came with the thing, preferring my Sennheiser folding phones... but I have to do some first aid on them as the covering wire on one side is getting a little stripped... of course, I work for the phone company, so vinyl tape is free!

This is the fucking best! I'll throw food at 'em!

The Nomad has in the space of one day has caused me to completely rethink my ideas about portable music. With so much at my fingertips at once, all in a tiny unit only slightly larger than the packs of cigarettes I used to smoke is exhilarating! Bitchin'!!
