It R hot out there!!!

Last night I put together the final edit of my follow up to Songs of the Heavens. It is interesting how the new programs I use and the Nomad have changed the process of making a mix disc since I compiled that one two and a half years ago. Previously, I would get an idea for a mix and have to compile the tracks and finish it in one session. Today, I have programs that allow me to save my work for another session, or even to edit the album after I have already completed most of the work. However, the Nomad allows me to go through a lot of my music collection in search of material for inclusion, so by the time I actually get around to putting the disc together, most of the selection process is done. This means that the assembly of the disc is now a relatively short process.

Making another volume in of an album that I had already created was an interesting and new challenge (although Sweeping Adventurous Heroic Shit Part II: The Revenge of the Shit was also something of a follow up to another disc that I made my friend Tim earlier, but as should be obvious from the title of that work, I didn't really take it very seriously). The new disc had to have its own identity discrete from the original, but it had to follow through in a similar vein. This album is perhaps a bit darker than its predecessor, although it is still very melodic. If I make a third follow-up in two and a half years, maybe I will go in a different direction.

This disc is a bit shorter than the other one. I debated whether I should go back to the well and find another track to include, but I felt that this was a pretty decent program, so I left it the way it was. I debated for a while whether I should close with the cue from Vertigo or not, but ended up deciding that it was, in fact, a perfect place to conclude this particular work, as it does represent, in many ways, the apothesis of both Alfred Hitchcock and Bernard Herrmann's collaboration.
