How evil are you?

Interestingly, I had already decided what to do for my weekly quote before I signed on and saw suitboyskin had offered up this meme. Rather appropriate, don't you think?

Movie Quote of the Week

Alien

Parker and Ripley are reactivating the head of Ash.
Parker
(voice over)

How come the company sent us a goddamn robot?

Ripley
(vo)

All I can thing of is they must've wanted the alien for their weapons division. He's been protecting it right along. Parker, will you plug it in?

Parker
(vo)

Um... I don't know why...

Ripley
(vo)

Because he may know how to kill it.

The head comes to life.
Ripley

Ash, can you hear me?

There is no response. Ripley slams her hand down on the table.
Ripley

Ash!!!

Ash

Yes, I can hear you.

Ripley

What was your special order?

Ash

You read it. I thought it was clear.

Ripley

What was it?

Ash

Bring back life form. Priority one. All other priorities rescinded.

Parker

The damn company! What about our lives, you son of a bitch?

Ash

I repeat: All other priorities are rescinded.

Ripley

How do we kill it? There's got to be a way of killing it. How... how do we do it?

Ash
(quietly)

You can't.

Parker

That's bullshit!

Ash

You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you? A perfect organism. It's structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.

Lambert

You admire it.

Ash

I admire its purity. A survivor, unclouded by conscience, remorse or delusions of morality.

Parker
(to Ripley)

Look, I... I've heard enough of this, and I'm asking you to pull the plug.

Ripley moves to do so
Ash

Last word.

Ripley

What?

Ash

I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies.

Ripley knocks the head over in anger.

This is, of course, one of my favorite exchanges from this film. In addition to being a very chilling moment; charges of it being an unneccesary subplot shrink in the light of the fact that the fight between Ripley and Ash is one of the most tense sequences in the film and the attempt to preserve an alien was used as the basis for every sequel since), it also perfectly encapsulates my fascination with the Xenomorph. Ash's line, "I admire its purity" gave me the title for a paper on genre and Alien that I rather enjoyed writing.
