Knocked out...

On top of my normal convalescence, I have also somehow managed to contract a cold. I was really looking forward to a conversation that suitboyskin and I were going to have last night, and I ended up zonking out on exhaustion and cold medicine before he could call. This will not stand, man, this aggression will not stand!

So, without further ado, I shall yoink a superlong meme from him:

What's with all the terror pictures?

I just watched Spellbound and Rebecca, the two major David O. Selznick productions Hitchcock did when he came to the United States; the latter film is the only one of his to win a Best Picture Oscar (although it was collected, naturally, by Selznick). Ironic, considering that while the film is very good, it is in my opinion one of Hitch's relatively minor works. I have to give a shout out to both cinematographer George Barnes, whose Oscar-winning work on this film is absolutely breathtaking (he also won an Oscar) and Judith Anderson, who is one of the spookiest characters in all of Hitch's canon. I'm going to reserve my comments on Spellbound (which I had seen before, long ago) until I can get suitboyskin to see it, as it relates to a prospective further collaboration that is currently forming (a much more academic pursuit than Ecology). Any of you familiar with the film and with suitboyskin and my interests should be able to guess what it might be.

I've also been really digging the Alfred Hitchcock Presents series. After an extremely well-acted but very predictable opening episode, the show improved considerably, and each one is a nifty little play. The best part of every entry is Hitch's droll comments at the beginning and end, though.

The Plan

Today I intend to have a relatively normal day. D.J. Mad Mike and I will be going to a record store in Wantagh to pick up some vinyl, and then possibly grab Dan that evening and catch a showing of Walk the Line. I have no need of any pain meds anymore, although every once and a while if I twist funny I still get a sharp reminder that I'm not in tip-top shape. My stool is also almost (but not entirely) back to normal. While that may be a bit too much information, I assure you that particular situation is nowhere near as disgusting as you're probably thinking it is.

I haven't decided whether I'm going back to work on Wednesday or Thursday; laziness suggests Thursday, of course, but I don't think I'll actually need it since I'll be on light duty. I'll talk to my boss about it Monday.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of Sapho that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion
