"Retirement? You're talking about death, right?"

Those words spoken by Robert Altman several years ago. They have been considered by many a vow that he would continue until his death, which, essentially, is what happened. 2007 will bring no new projects from the man who was legitimately called a maverick for over thirty years. A depressing thought to be sure, but the body of work he left us is not only probing and intense, there's also a lot of humor in there as well. It's a dark, perverse humor to be sure, which is probably why I respond to it.

So, rather than dwell on the negative, let us instead remember him for the classics he created. Here is one of the most memorable scenes from the film in which he pretty much staked his claim as a major American filmmaker...
