Doesn't "Black Friday" sound like a 70s Blaxploitation version of "His Girl Friday?"

Ah, Thanksgiving. The day that separates those who have learned how to carefully pace oneself so that one can maximize the effects of the never-ending onslaught of foodstuffs whilst keeping oneself from being sick... and those who haven't. I am quite glad to fall into the former category.

I haven't in the past been a big fan of sweet potatoes, so I have tended to avoid them. A few weeks ago, however, I ended up trying some sweet potato fries, and I enjoyed them. I therefore set my resolve that I would try the sweet potato pie this Thanksgiving. I'm glad that I did; one of the main advantages of periodically trying food that one had not enjoyed in the past is that occasionally you find something that you've come around to. It is very strange; I understand what it is that I didn't like about sweet potatoes in the past, but simply no longer agree anymore.

And now for something completely different....
Yoinked from megthelegend are these two color memes:

Your rainbow is shaded blue and red.

What is says about you: You are a tranquil person. You appreciate energetic people. You share hobbies with friends and like trying to fit into their routines. You get bored easily and want friends who will keep up with you.

Find the colors of your rainbow at spacefem.com.

you are paleturquoise
#AFEEEE

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is low - You stay out of stressful situations and advise others to do the same. You may not be the go-to person when something really needs done, but you know never to blow things out of proportion.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

Eh, pretty much what I expected.
And yoinked from revolos55 is this long survey:
  1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS: HOW DID YOU GET IT?
I was hit in the eyebrow with a golf ball on the way to my S.A.T. class back in high school.

  2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?
    11" X 17" movie poster reproductions.

  3. DO YOU SNORE, GRIND YOUR TEETH, OR TALK IN YOUR SLEEP?
I think that I've been known to snore, but only when I have a cold.

  4. WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?
Film scores, rock, jazz, romantic, modern.

  5. DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME YOU WERE BORN?
    3:45 P.M.

  6. WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW?
Now that I think about it, BREAKFAST!!!

  7. WHAT DO YOU MISS?
    Tower Records.

  8. WHAT IS YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION(S)?
My music collection, my movie collection, the equipment I use to play aforementioned music and movies, my car, my computer with which to make music mixes and my camera to make my own damn movies.

  9. HOW TALL ARE YOU?
    5'11"

  10. DO YOU GET CLAUSTROPHOBIC?
Not usually, but the tube that Bishop (Lance Henriksen) undulates through in Aliens would give me some pause.

  11. DO YOU GET SCARED IN THE DARK?
    No, I like the dark.

  12. THE LAST PERSON TO MAKE YOU CRY?
Since I received Firefly on Blu-ray, I've been going through the series again, followed by my HD-DVD of Serenity. "I am a leaf on the wind." You decide upon whom to place the blame, Alan Tudyk for playing it or Joss Whedon for writing it.

  13. WHAT ARE YOUR INITIALS?
    J.M.G.

  14. LIKE MUSIC?
I've been known to be somewhat partial to it from time to time...

  15. MOST LISTENED TO BAND?
Band? It would probably be Led Zeppelin. Or Bob Marley and the Wailers. If "band" is used simply as a stand-in for "artist," then I would expect a dead heat between Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams.

  16. COFFEE OR ENERGY DRINK?
Coffee (in fact, remember that breakfast from question 16?). I haven't like the (admittedly few) energy drinks that I've tried.

  17. FAVORITE PIZZA TOPPING?
    Fresh garlic!

  18. IF YOU COULD EAT ANYTHING RIGHT NOW, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Two eggs over easy with corned beef hash and home fries. And I will eat this very meal as soon as I'm done with this meme.

  19. HAVE YOU EVER EATEN A GOLDFISH?
I'm actually something of a big fan of Pepperidge Farm goldfish. I like the cheddar and the pretzel, but I've not yet tried any of the sweeter variations.

  20. WHAT WAS THE FIRST MEANINGFUL GIFT YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?
I wouldn't say it was the first meaningful gift that I received, but I remember the Chanukah where my mother got me my Millenium Falcon action playset, which was something I really wanted very badly and was aware of how hard she worked to make sure that I got.

  21. DO YOU LIKE ANYBODY?
I have core groups of friends.

  22. ARE YOU DOUBLE JOINTED?
    No.

  23. FAVORITE CLOTHING BRAND?
    Don't have one.

  24. DO YOU HAVE A PET?
    Unfortunately not.

  25. WHAT KIND IS IT?
Shouldn't there be an "if so" clause in that question somewhere?

  26. WOULD YOU FALL IN LOVE KNOWING THAT THE PERSON IS LEAVING?
Not if I could help it, but one can't always help these things.

  27. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TELL SOMEONE HOW MUCH THEY MEAN TO YOU?
Verbally. I don't really go much for the symbolic.

  28. SAY A NUMBER FROM ONE TO A HUNDRED:
    Ninety-seven.

  29. BLONDES OR BRUNETTES??
No preference, depends on the complexion of the woman in question.

  30. WHAT IS THE ONE NUMBER YOU CALL MOST OFTEN?</b>
    The Carrier Account Team Center.

  31. WHAT ANNOYS YOU MOST?
The religious right. (revolos55's answer as well).

  32. HAVE YOU BEEN OUT OF THE USA?
    Yes.

  33. YOUR WEAKNESSES?
    Dessert!

  34. MET ANYONE FAMOUS?
The most famous person I've ever met would probably have been Lars Ulrich. He was a dick.

  35. FIRST JOB?
I worked at a local deli.

  36. EVER DONE A PRANK CALL?
It depends on how you define "prank call." I play practical jokes on my friends and co-workers, but I don't victimize strangers.

  37. WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE YOU FILLED THIS OUT?
    See the above memes.

  38. HAVE YOU EVER HAD SURGERY?
I have had my gall bladder removed. I really don't miss it at all.

  39. WHAT DO YOU GET COMPLEMENTED ABOUT MOST?
    My mixes or my reason.

  40. HAVE YOU EVER HAD BRACES?
Oh hell's yes! I had Bugs Bunny teeth when I was in elementary school.

  41. WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY?
Well, I once asked my stepdad if I could have "world peace" for my birthday, he told me I didn't deserve it. He's right, damn it. Seriously, though, I guess I'd have to go with a new television.

  42. HOW MANY KIDS DO YOU WANT?
Eventually I would like to have an extremely modest number.

  43. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
It is a common Jewish tradition to name a child after a relative, but the name one references is the Hebrew name, so the only resemblance my name has to that of whom I am named after is the letter "J" that opens them.

  44. DO YOU WISH ON STARS?
    No.

  45. WHAT KIND OF SHAMPOO DO YOU USE?
    Denorex.

  46. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
When I don't go over it too much, coloring it in, yes.

    Porsciutto.

  48. ANY BAD HABITS?
    A touch of laziness.

  49. WHAT CD ARE YOU MOST EMBARRASSED TO HAVE ON YOUR SHELF?
I actually do have a few Hans Zimmer scores, against my better judgement.

  50. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
This is a really bizarre question. If I was another person, I wouldn't be me, so I couldn't necessarily say whether I would be friends with myself or not.

  51. DO LOOKS MATTER?
    In casting? Absolutely. Otherwise, no.

  52. HOW DO YOU RELEASE ANGER?
    Loud action music.

  53. WHERE IS YOUR SECOND HOME?
    My work hole.

  54. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TOY AS A CHILD?
The aforementioned Millenium Falcon action playset. Especially when my grandfather tricked it out so that it had running lights on it when you pressed the button that made the sound.

  55. HOW MANY NUMBERS ARE IN YOUR CELL PHONE?
A shitload, especially as I have more than one.

  56. ERE YOU A FAN OF BARNEY AS A LITTLE KID?
Barney wasn't around when I was a kid.

  57. DO YOU USE SARCASM?
    No.

(see, that was sarcasm right there)

  58. MASHED POTATOES OR MACARONI AND CHEESE?
That depends on what I'm having with them. I enjoy both, however.

  59. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GUY/GIRL?
    Intellect, geekiness, sense of humor.

  60. WHAT ARE YOUR NICKNAMES?
"Josh," "Swashbuckler" (not self-applied, thank you very much), "The Muffin Man" and "Yosho" (obsolete).

  61. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE BAND/SINGER?
If I had to pick one rock band, it would be Led Zeppelin.

I don't actually have one favorite ice cream flavor, I like different ones for different reasons. I can definitively say that my favorite sorbet is mango, however.

  64. DO YOU HAVE ALL YOUR FINGERS AND TOES?
Indeed. And I use them all frequently.

  65. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WORKED OUT?
What does this mean, "wurkt awt?"

  66. PLANS FOR TONIGHT?
Nothing solid, but I am probably going out.

  67. WHAT'S THE FASTEST YOU HAVE GONE IN A CAR?
I had a Pontiac Firebird once. It went very fast.

  68. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS?
I wouldn't mind seeing some others do so, but I don't think tagging is fair.

  69. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO?
John Williams' Raiders of the Lost Ark on DCC's 180 gram audiophile pressing double LP set. Except for the placement of "Airplane Fight," perhaps the best presentation of this music, content-wise.

  70. LAST THING YOU DRANK?
Water (H2O, HOH) is the most abundant molecule on Earth's surface, composing of about 70% of the Earth's surface as liquid and solid state in addition to being found in the atmosphere as a vapor. It is in dynamic equilibrium between the liquid and gas states at standard temperature and pressure. At room temperature, it is a nearly colorless (with a hint of blue), tasteless, and odorless liquid. Many substances dissolve in water and it is commonly referred to as the universal solvent. Because of this, water in nature and in use is rarely pure, and may have some properties different from those in the laboratory. However, there are many compounds that are essentially, if not completely, insoluble in water. Water is the only common substance found naturally in all three common states of matter—for other substances, see Chemical properties. Water is essential for all life on Earth. Water also usually makes up 55% to 78% of the human body.

    Astrology.

  75. FAVORITE MONTH OF THE YEAR?
    September, I guess.

  76. ZODIAC SIGN?

  77. WHAT IS YOUR HAIR COLOR?
    Dirty blond.

  78. EYE COLOR?
Blue. Yes, blond hair and blue eyes I'm all Aryan like that.

    Boston Market.

  81. FAVORITE RESTAURANT?
    Umberto's, I guess.
